The Mummy (2017)

Universal's Dark Universe Introduces The Mummy... Though not the best of starts to a franchise!

No... Not Brendan Fraser's Mummy (what's happened to BF?), The Mummy. Universal are trying their own franchise of films, starring some of Hollywood's elite actors. Johnny Depp will play as the Invisible Man and Javier Bardem as Frankenstein. However, I feel that Universal are throwing big-name actors into a series of films that will most likely be wasted considering the Marvel universe has been built to perfection and DC are doing their B-movie versions (yes, I'm not a fan). Will this work?

Anyway, on to my review. Tom Cruise... The mid-50s actor, turned action-man, plays Nick Morton (who!?) and co-stars with Russell Crowe, who plays Dr. Jekyll (& Mr. Hyde duh!). It's a somewhat horror with all the cliché moments, some pretty impressive actions scenes though lacked in grabbing your attention. You can easily guess the ending mid-way through the film, which for me, spoils it. The acting is okay in parts, I think Crowe steals the show with his English/Australian Jekyll & Hyde, but overall it wasn't the best film to grab your enthusiasm for what could potentially be a decent set of films based on the classic monsters that has hit the screens over the decades.

Would I recommend watching this film? Yes... Though perhaps watch it when either Sky or Netflix/Amazon snap it up, I wouldn't waste my money on seeing it.

What do I rate this film? 2/5

Would I watch it again? No.

Note: I will revisit this review again once the next film of this series hits our screens. Let's see if it can improve!
